Gonçalo Ramos (GR) holds a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology (Universidade do Algarve, 2021) and a Master's degree in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution (Universidade do Porto, 2023). He is currently a researcher at Centro de Ciências do Mar at Instituto Universitário - Psicologia, Biociências e Educação (MARE-ISPA, Portugal). Previously, he worked at Centro de Ciências do Mar (CCMAR, Portugal), incorporating the Biogeographical Ecology and Evolution research team. He has co-authored two peer-reviewed papers, lectured one oral presentation at an international conference, and contributed to three conference posters (one as the main author and two as co-author). He has received three academic awards, collaborated on two research projects, and participated in two scientific expeditions with Fundação Oceano Azul. GR has trained at one international institution: National Marine Science Centre in Coffs Harbour (Australia), and in two national institutions: CCMAR and MARE–ISPA. GR has mostly worked in spatial ecology but is also trained in molecular biology. He has experience with advanced tools such as Shark Management Alert in Real-Time drumlines (SMART drumlines), Baited Remote Underwater Videos (BRUVs), and DNA barcoding. His main research interests lie in shark ecology and conservation. He is also a certified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

2023/11/17 - 2023/11/17 Workshop held during "White Shark Global 2023", led by Dr Paul Butcher. This 3-hour long workshop explored the complex and controversial issue of managing white shark populations. It included a diverse group of stakeholders, including scientists, conservationists, managers, and fishers. Groups of stakeholders structured and wrote paragraphs to build a manuscript posing the question: How can we strike a balance between conservation and human interests in a changing world?
