Mário João Pires Fernandes Garcia Monteiro

Mário João P. F. G. Monteiro has a PhD in Astrophysics from Queen Mary University of London (1996) and is an Associate Professor. He is, since 2023, the Vice-President of the Scientific Council at the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto and was the Director of the Departamento de Física e Astronomia between 2019 and 2022. He is since 2008 the Portuguese Delegate to the Science Programme Committee of the European Space Agency and is involved in research, teaching and dissemination of Universe Sciences/Space Sciences. Mário Monteiro is an integrated researcher at the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences (IA U.Porto), participating in the Group "Towards a comprehensive study of stars". He coordinated the Doctoral Network on Space Sciences (PhD::SPACE) between 2014 and 2023 in IA and was the Course Director of the Doctoral Program in Astronomy of the University of Porto between 2010 and 2019. He was the principal investigator for 17 funded projects and participated in other 18 funded projects. Mario Monteiro has supervised 9 PhD Thesis and 13 master Dissertations. He was also the supervisor of several postdoc researchers (18) and research scholarships (19). He has over 180 publications listed in ADS with more than 10600 citations, with an H-index of 50. He edited 7 books, published by international publishers. He is a regular evaluator in national and international panels for funding research. The current research interests focus on STELLAR ASTROPHYSICS and, in particular, on the study of the internal structure and evolution of solar-type stars using asteroseismology. He is involved in outreach and teaching of astronomy.
