Betina da Silva Lopes holds a Ph.D. in Didactics and Education (2013) and a Master in Science Communication and Education (2007) both from the University of Aveiro (PT). In 2004 she graduated in Biology - Educational Teacher Training (University of Coimbra, PT) receiving the Avelar Botero award - best graduation (17,4) in that academic school year. She is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Education and Psychology at the University of Aveiro. She coordinates the master course "Biology and Geology Teaching in the 3rd cycle of basic education and secondary education". She is also a member of CIDTFF (vice coordinator), a Research Centre focused on Didactics and Technology in the Education of Trainers. Her current research interest is focused mainly on Science Teacher Education in Portuguese-speaking countries from the African, Caribbean & Pacific (ACP) region involving Portuguese Higher Education Institutions as development-cooperation actors. As a (co)author she published 45 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 32 book chapters, 6 books, and 11 consultancy reports related to (teacher) education, including in international contexts (São Tomé and Principe and Angola). Invited speaker at 11 scientific events, 30 lectures at undergraduate, master, and PhD. level, and 11 science outreach events. Participated in more than 45 scientific conferences. Has been supervising students at master and PhD. level involving science (teacher) education at national and international levels. Since May 2021 she closely collaborates with the non-profit organization "Cartas com Ciência" assisting in the development of a monitoring and evaluation impact strategy. In 2022 was nominated as one of the 100 TOP women in social enterprise by the European Euclides Network.
