Andreia has a Barchelor's degree in Biochemistry, which ended with an internship at Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (i3S, i3s.up.pt) from Porto University. In that lab she assessed the role of a non-coding 28 nucleotide sequence, found to strongly increase protein production. From this global bachelors degree and basic research, Andreia went to an applied Health Sciences master, in Minho University (ICVS, icvs.uminho.pt). She followed the neuroscience specialization in the master thesis which was focused on the therapeutic value of stem cells secretome, a group of biofactors and vesicles released by the cells, on spinal cord injury context. Specifically, on the master's thesis she dissected the effect of each fraction - protein and vesicular fraction - on spinal cord injury context. This work join the other's knowledge achieved by the group in showing the highly promising therapeutic potential of stem cells secretome, which is now in a patent submission. Also, secretome showed interesting immunomodulatory properties which lead Andreia to study more about SCI-associated inflammation during a year fellowship. Now, Andreia is a PhD student specially interested on neuroimmunogy field dissecting the microglia and neutrophil interaction after spinal cord injury. Also, she developed several science communication projects as side projects which can be seen on Science Wave instagram account and Ciência no Feminino podcast.
