Mariana da Silva Carreira is a PhD candidate in Medical Biotechnology at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro. She obtained a BSc in Biomedical Sciences (2014–2017) and an MSc in Biochemistry, with a specialization in Molecular Methods (2017–2019), both from the University of Aveiro. During her master’s at the COMPASS Research Group (CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials), she developed a dissertation focused on liquefied capsules incorporating nanogrooved microdiscs and co-encapsulated endothelial and mesenchymal stem cells for bone tissue engineering. Afterwards, she continued as a research fellow, developing a bone marrow–mimetic model based on liquefied capsules that integrates cells and bioinstructive materials to enhance bone regeneration. Her current research focuses on advanced microencapsulation platforms for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. More recently, she has been exploring magnetic fields and acoustic forces as external physical stimuli to modulate cellular behavior and improve tissue regeneration. Mariana has contributed to 4 peer-reviewed publications, as well as 3 oral communications and 12 poster presentations at national and international conferences, including a Second Best Poster Award.
