Ana Paulino-Afonso holds a PhD in Astronomy & Astrophysics from the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Lisbon. She is currently a Junior Research Scientist at IA-UPorto (CAUP), having secured a highly competitive contract in the 3rd edition of the CEEC initiative (oversubscribed by a factor of ~13). Her previous positions include a Junior Research Scientist role at CENTRA/IST (Lisbon, Portugal)—where she also served as an Invited Teaching Assistant in IST's Physics Department—and at MPE/OPINAS (Garching bei München, Germany). Her research primarily focuses on Extragalactic Astrophysics and Observational Cosmology, where she applies machine learning and deep learning models to explore the evolution of galaxies. She was the PI of the "FLAEMING: Finding Lyman-alpha Emitters Through Machine Learning" exploratory project, which was awarded ~50k EUR. She secured an NVIDIA RTX A6000 GPU via the NVIDIA Hardware Grant for the project "An NVIDIA Eye on Galaxy Evolution History: Featuring the Galactic Bulges' Light." Additionally, she won ~57k USD in Google Cloud Platform credits for the AstroLingua project, which aimed to develop an image captioning model for astronomical data. Paulino-Afonso has authored 38+ peer-reviewed journal articles, including six as Principal Investigator (PI). She has also played a key role in organizing four major scientific events, including two National Astronomy & Astrophysics Meetings (ENAA). She has actively participated in numerous conferences, workshops, schools, and meetings, collaborating with over 300 professionals in her field. She has successfully led over 15 co-PI proposals, including for the Hubble Space Telescope, and has accumulated more than 35 observing nights without a support astronomer. She actively contributes to the Euclid and MOONS consortia and is a member of WST, BlueMUSE, MOSAIC, and newATHENA. She is also a member of the Portuguese Astronomy Society, where she has served as President of the General Assembly since 2022, the European Astronomical Society, and the International Astronomical Union. Since 2024, she has served as Portugal's national representative on the ESO Users Committee and will co-chair the committee in 2025. h-index: 22 / i10-index: 31 (as of February 25, 2025; source: NASA/ADS).
