Idilson António Nhamage is a structural engineer currently undertaking a PhD in Structural Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). His research focuses on structural health monitoring of bridges, fatigue analysis, and the application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Digital Twin (DT) technologies in bridge engineering. He completed his Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, specialising in Structural Engineering, in 2014 at the Technological Centre of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil. His dissertation was entitled “Improvement of the Hybrid Pincus-Nelder and Mead Optimisation Algorithm for Damage Detection in Structures Using Vibration Data.” He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique. Since 2010, he has served as an assistant professor at Eduardo Mondlane University, where he teaches structural engineering courses within the civil engineering programme and has supervised several undergraduate dissertations. He has published four journal articles and five conference papers. As part of his research activity, he participated in the In2Track3 project (2022–2023), which focused on research into enhanced track and switch and crossing systems. Between 2019 and 2021, he held the position of Head of the Engineering Studies Centre at the Faculty of Engineering, Eduardo Mondlane University, where he coordinated multiple engineering projects across various disciplines. From 2009 to 2013, and again from 2016 to 2021, he collaborated with SECON – Serviços de Engenharia e Consultoria, Mozambique. During this time, he was involved in the design of multiple structural projects and the supervision of various construction works.
