Joana Abranches Portela is a researcher at CHAIA – Centre for Art History and Artistic Research, University of Évora, and at In2Past – Associate Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory. Her academic and research trajectory is distinguished by an interdisciplinary profile, bringing together literary studies, landscape research, cultural history and anthropology. She completed her PhD in Landscape Arts and Techniques at the University of Évora in 2026, with a dissertation on the literary landscapes of Alentejo, integrating approaches from literary studies, cultural geography, and landscape studies. Since 2017, she has contributed to the Atlas of Literary Landscapes of Mainland Portugal, a project that intersects literature, territory, heritage, and cultural cartography. Her academic background further reflects this diversity of interests and expertise: she holds an MA in Editorial Studies from the University of Aveiro (2009), an MA in Classical Literature from the University of Coimbra (2002), and a BA in Classical and Portuguese Languages and Literatures from the University of Coimbra (1998). She worked as a research fellow in a scientific project (2019–2020) and was awarded a doctoral scholarship by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) (2021–2025). Her research activities are situated at the intersection of the Humanities and the Arts, with particular emphasis on Languages and Literatures, Landscape Studies, and Cultural Heritage. She is the author of two book chapters and several articles published in peer-reviewed academic journals, covering fields as diverse as Classical Studies, Editorial Studies, Anthropology, Environmental Humanities and Landscape Studies. Her scholarly output demonstrates a sustained commitment to interdisciplinary research and to fostering dialogue across different areas of knowledge.
