This takes the form of group feedback and discussion on the quality and clarity of presentations given at group lab meetings, and mandatory rehearsals of any oral presentations to be given by members of the DNC at any event. 2017 - Current Grant brainstorming sessions- I initiated and implemented within the Dubowitz Neuromuscular Center (although this is now expanding to include the ION and some collaborator groups) regular sessions where grant applications that are in preparation or have not been awarded are reviewed and constructive criticism is provided in a friendly open environment. Although participation is voluntary for junior members, attendance and participation has been high. More junior people have written and submitted grant applications, with a high rate of success. 2012/09 - 2013/08 The Myology Training Course course is unique in North America. It is an intensive one week course that combines lectures, wet labs, and visits to the clinic. My lecture on muscle development serves as an introduction to the entire Myology Training Course by providing information on muscle development, muscle structure and muscle regeneration that is essential to our understanding of muscle diseases that manifest post-natally. Myology Training Course The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, United States
2012/03 - 2012/05 The goal of this course was to introduce students to various experimental treatment approaches and to the process leading from the bench to a clinical trial. We designed the course to directly engage students by having them work in pairs to come up with a strategy to test a novel treatment approach for a disease of their choice for which no treatment is available. The strategy was presented to the entire class and was evaluated by the group for feasibility, cost, likelihood of success, and its potential for translation to a clinical setting. Advanced IBGP Seminar Course The Ohio State University College of Medicine, United States
2011/08 - 2011/08 This is a series of lectures for undergraduate students who are interested in a career in research or medicine. The goal is for students to get an appreciation of the different paths that researchers have taken in their career to find their vocation. 2006/09 - 2006/11 “Viral gene therapy and stem cell therapy”- The goal of this course was to give students an in depth understanding of the uses and challenges associated with stem- and gene-based treatment approaches. We designed the course to promote student participation by engaging them in discussions with invited speakers on a variety of topics such as ethical issues, potential patient concerns for participation in clinical trials, risk versus benefit assessment. Advanced IBGP Seminar Course The Ohio State University College of Medicine, United States
