Rui Sousa has a Ph.D. in Applied Chemistry from the University do Minho, following a background in this field, with a BSc in Biochemistry and a MSc in Chemical Characterization and Analysis Techniques. He is currently an Auxiliary Invited Researcher at the Textile Science and Technology Center (2C2T) of University of Minho. His current work includes the development and manipulation of polymeric formulations for electrospinning, wet-spinning, and 3D printing. He is working under the framework of RRP project GIATEX, developing electrospun membranes and natural fibers-based non-wovens for filtration and adsorption applications. His past work includes the synthesis and characterization of new organic molecules, the synthesis and characterization of novel organic-inorganic hybrids by the sol-gel method, antifouling compounds sensing, and optical fiber sensors. His background provided well-balanced knowledge and expertise within the chemistry and materials field.
