Isabel Maria Morais Basto

Isabel Basto is currently the Coordinator of the Master's in Clinical and Health Psychology. She completed her PhD in Psychology, specializing in Clinical Psychology, at the University of Coimbra in 2018. Her dissertation, titled “Process of Change in Psychotherapy: Empirical Validation of the Problematic Experience Assimilation Model”, focused on analyzing the therapeutic process of change, particularly regarding the assimilation of problematic experiences in patients diagnosed with depression. She has participated as a researcher in projects funded by the FCT (Clinical Trials) and EEA, namely the projects PTDC/PSI-PCL/103432/2008, EEA-Grants/PT06, and PTDC/MHC-PCL/1991/2014. In these projects, she was involved in evaluating the clinical efficacy of treatments for depression, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), as well as in the development of clinical intervention manuals, the training of clinical psychologists/therapists and other healthcare professionals, and the implementation of therapeutic interventions using technological components. Notably, one of these projects specifically aimed to analyze psychotherapeutic interventions combined with digital platforms and mobile applications for treatment delivery. Isabel leads a research team composed of PhD researchers and doctoral students with grants funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Her scientific output includes regular publications on psychotherapy change processes in high-impact journals, such as Psychotherapy Research. She has been responsible for supervising Master’s and Doctoral theses, including in the areas of therapist training and intervention in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). She is also actively involved in providing specialized training and clinical supervision in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Isabel Basto is an Integrated Member of the Psychology Center at the University of Porto (CPUP). She is a licensed psychologist with a specialization in Clinical and Health Psychology, accredited by the Order of Portuguese Psychologists, and a supervisor in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
