Isabel Calhau completed her Licentiate Degree in Biochemistry in June of 2016 at the University of Évora. In 2017 she started studies for a Master's Degree in Biochemistry at the same university, which concluded in December of 2018 with the grade 17/20. The research work performed during the Master's degree studies led to the co-authorship of several poster communications presented at national conferences. In March of 2019 she joined CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials, University of Aveiro, as a research fellow with a grant provided by an ongoing FCT-funded research project entitled "Stimuli-activated systems for carbon monoxide therapy". Her specialisation in Biochemistry has led her to focus on the development of biological assays, analytical protocols and detection methods for studying the release of carbon monoxide (CO) from prodrugs that are being synthesised in Aveiro as delivery platforms of CO for therapeutic use. The research activities performed in Aveiro have been disseminated in the form of four articles in peer-reviewed international scientific journals (in which Isabel is first author or co-first author) and several poster communications at national and international conferences. Recently, she was awarded with a PhD fellowship grant (2021.05953.BD) with a thesis project entitled "Supramolecular nanocarriers for the storage and delivery of the gasotransmitter carbon monoxide".
