Since 2015, I have held a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Management from the University of Beira Interior, where I successfully defended my thesis titled "The Use of Biomass as an Alternative Energy Source for the Sustainability and Competitiveness of the Portuguese Industry". I also hold a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences from the University of Évora and the University of Algarve, having successfully defended my thesis in 2024, entitled "The Impact of Climate Change on Environmental Variability and Strategy Development for the Portuguese Forest: Controlling Invasive Species through Energy Valorization". Previously, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Geology (Scientific Branch) from the Earth Sciences Department at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (1996), a Bachelor's degree in Geology from the Earth Sciences Department at the School of Sciences of the University of Minho (2008), and a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Sciences - Mining and Geo-Environment Engineering from the Mining Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (2017). I also obtained a Master's degree in Hydraulics and Water Resources from the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon (1999), with a dissertation titled “Modeling the Evolution of the Coastline”, and a Master's degree in Geological Engineering (Georesources Branch) from the Earth Sciences Department at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the New University of Lisbon (2011), with a dissertation titled “Legislative Framework of the Exploitation of Mineral Masses (Quarries)”. Additionally, I completed two successful post-doctoral internships in Industrial Engineering and Management at the Department of Electromechanics of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Beira Interior (2016), with the topic “Biomass Thermochemical Conversion Technologies and Derived Fuels Development”, and at the Department of Economics, Management, Industrial Engineering, and Tourism at the University of Aveiro (2018), with the topic “Thermochemical Conversion Technologies of Biomass: Associated Supply Chains and Technical and Economic Feasibility of Industrial Scale-up”. I have also attended training courses and postgraduate programs at recognized institutions, notably including courses in Real Estate Investment Analysis and Appraisal (Polytechnic Institute of Porto), Management for Quarry Managers of Aggregate Production, Massif Blasting (Higher Institute of Engineering of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto), Sustainable Business Strategy (Harvard Business School), among others. My professional career spans about 25 years in the industry, mainly in the fields of environment, extractive industry, and renewable energies. In teaching, I have collaborated and continue to collaborate with various public and private institutions, namely ISEIT (Instituto Piaget), ISMAI - University Institute of Maia (now University of Maia), University of Aveiro, and Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo. I am the author or co-author of dozens of publications, mainly in scientific areas associated with biomass energy and its potentials, environment, natural resource management, supply chain management, sustainability, circular economy, material characterization, rural space development, climate change, industrial engineering, and biomass thermochemical conversion technologies. I have also collaborated and continue to collaborate as a supervisor or co-supervisor of several Master's and Doctoral Dissertations/Theses at the University of Beira Interior, the University of Aveiro, the University of Porto, and the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, and I have also been involved in various research projects at the aforementioned national institutions, as well as international ones, including Penn State University (USA) and Ton Duc Thang University (Vietnam).
