Thiago Barbosa holds a Ph.D. in Fire Safety Engineering (May, 2023 - University of Coimbra, Portugal), a master's in Chemical Engineering (2017 - Federal University of Bahia, Brazil), a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (2014, Brazil), and a post-degree diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Engineering (2017, Brazil). Since 2019, he has been a researcher at the Forest Fire Research Centre (CEIF) which is a branch of the Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics (ADAI) closely connected to the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM) of the University of Coimbra. Since November 2023, Thiago has become the coordinator of the Forest Fire Research Laboratory (LEIF), one of CEIF´s laboratories. Thiago has extensive experience in field and laboratory fire tests. Thiago has led and performed different types of tests, such as testing fire retardants and fire fighting foam, besides developing and testing equipment for fire safety. His Ph.D. thesis entitled "Influence of LPG Reservoirs on Safety in Wildland Urban Interface Fire Scenarios" was closely related to fire safety. During the PhD, Thiago carried out tests with LPG cylinders impinged by flames to assess the resilience and reliability of safety devices such as relief valves. This study gathered important information about the effects of jet fire and LPG explosion, namely thermal radiation, fireball, overpressure, and fragments launched. His Ph.D. also had a computational fluids dynamics (CFD) component which aimed to predict the LPG behavior in canisters by assessing the thermodynamics in a multi-phase system (volume of liquid and gas), pressure increment, and temperature of both phases for a transient state under heating. He has been working on various research projects (Portuguese and European projects) related to Fire Behavior, Forest Fire, and Safety, such as FirEUrisk, WUIVIEW, SmokeStorm, Triple C, and SafeFire. Thiago was a member (2021 and 2023) of a team of experts that made two reports about forest fires for the Portuguese Institutions. He is a member of the Portuguese-Brazilian Association for Fire Safety (ALBRASCI). Thiago is also an Ad Hoc reviewer in some international journals such as Combustion Science and Technology, and Fire. Thiago is the author (and co-author) of 15 publications (journal papers, book chapters, and conference presentations) in the fields of fire behavior, forest fire, safety, and materials engineering (polymers). Thiago Barbosa is previously experienced as: I) Occupational Safety Expert at Brazilian Labour Court (2018), his actions were analyzing unhealthy or hazardous situations and making reports to support the judge's decision-making; II) HSEQ Coordinator in Power Plant construction (wind and solar energy) (2017), his actions were leading the HSE team, performing hazard analysis about various work activities such as electromechanical assembling, work at height, lifting operations, digging, commissioning, and building. In addition, Thiago also led the management of environment licenses of all suppliers of raw materials (stone, sand, concrete, wood), water quality, and residues.; III) Invited auxiliary professor at SENAI CIMATEC (2016-2017) teaching Hygiene and Work Safety, HSE Management, Loss Prevention, Laboratory of Chemical Processes, and Chemical Analysis; IV) Chemical Engineer (Polymers) at Smart Compósitos Brasil (2014-2016) V) Process Safety Intern (Chemical Engineer Internship) in a Titanium Dioxide Industry (2013).
