Over the years, I have developed myself as a scientist specialised on the domains of microfluidic bioengineering and biomaterials. My expertise covers in special methodologies in microfabrication, microfluidics, material characterization, biomaterials, cell biology and image analysis. Over the years, (co-)authored 36 peer-reviewed publications (5 as first author, 1 as last author), and participate as inventor is 3 patent applications. I embarked on my PhD journey at the University of Twente (UT) in 2011. My thesis focused on "Developing microfluidic platforms for screening cell-biomaterial interactions" being completed at Maastricht University. This work encompassed the screening of chemical gradients, integration of topographical biomaterial cues within microfluidic chips, and the use of microfluidics to create instructive biomaterials. Notably, my PhD research earned recognition from the European Society for Biomaterials and the Valorization Prize from Maastricht University. With a multidisciplinary background, I seized the opportunity to explore organ-on-chip (OoC) technology, leveraging my expertise in microfabrication and cell biology. As a postdoctoral researcher, I joined the MERLN institute at Maastricht University and the Instituto de Medicina Molecular at the University of Lisbon. I actively participated in and contributed to fund several collaborative exploratory projects, co-organized international scientific events (conferences, symposia), served as a referee for numerous biomaterials and bioengineering journals, and engaged in diverse teaching activities.
