Alicia Loreto García Costa works in the area of Engineering and Technology with emphasis on Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering. She developed her PhD dissertation on the intensification of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) using microwave radiation for wastewater treatment at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain). She focused her work on the use of carbonaceous materials as low-cost catalysts in microwave assisted Catalytic Wet Peroxide Oxidation (MW-CWPO). During her PhD whe also worked in UV-assisted CWPO thanks to a research stay of 3 months at the University of Cincinnati under the guidance of Prof. Dionysious D. Dionysiou and in electro-oxidation with a total of 6 months in the University of Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier, where she collaborated with Prof. Karine Groenen-Serrano. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the LEPABE group (University of Porto) where she is broadening her knowledge on AOPs applying ozonation and Fenton-like processes for the elimination of cytostatic drugs.
