A dynamic and versatile researcher with a BSc in Biochemistry (2010) and MSc in Bioengineering (2012) from the University of Minho, Portugal. With over a decade of lab experience, he has built a strong foundation at the interface of industrial biotechnology, biophysics, and biochemistry. From 2012 to 2015, he contributed to a pioneering scientific project led by the University of Minho in collaboration with Cleveland Diagnostics, Inc. (Cleveland, OH, USA), a global leader in Aqueous Two-Phase Systems (ATPS) research. This collaboration shaped his expertise in solute partitioning and liquid-liquid equilibrium. During his PhD training (2015–2020) at the Centre of Biological Engineering, University of Minho, and Cleveland Diagnostics, he deepened his understanding of ATPS mechanisms and thermodynamics. As a postdoctoral researcher worked at the DWI Leibniz Institute (Aachen, Germany) and the Bijvoet Centre for Biomolecular Research, Utrecht University (The Netherlands), in Dr. Arnold Boersma’s group. There, he acquired advanced expertise in designing genetically encoded Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) sensors to study intracellular biochemical organization and pathological protein aggregation under crowded environments. Currently, he contributes to the PRR Agenda "From Fossil to Forest" at the Centre of Biological Engineering, University of Minho, developing sustainable, innovative industrial solutions to meet modern challenges. His research aims to bridge fundamental and applied research, leveraging his expertise in phase separation, solute partitioning, and integrated process design to address pressing industrial and societal needs. His research interests include advancing sustainable bioprocesses and exploring liquid-liquid systems as biomimetic platforms, combining technical innovation with impactful applications.
