Carolina Saraiva de Matos Pires completed her Bachelor degree in Biochemistry in 2017, at NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA) and obtained a Master degree in Molecular Genetics and Biomedicine in 2019, also at FCT NOVA. Currently, she is developing her PhD, integrated in the Health Sciences doctoral programme of NOVA Medical School. The thesis project is being held at Instituto Português de Oncologia de Lisboa Francisco Gentil (IPOLFG), with the main goal of contributing to a better understanding of the genetic basis and mechanisms involved in the aetiology and development of early-onset and familial thyroid cancer, as these still remain poorly clarified and are classified as more aggressive clinical entities. Besides scientific research, she is also passionate by sports, being a competitive swimming federated athlete.
