Rita Ruivo Marques graduated in 2003 in Chemical Engineering at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra (FCTUC), in Portugal. In 2006 she started her research path earning a position to integrate the research team at the European project REMOVALS (FP6), in which she performed Advanced Oxidation Processes for environmental applications at FCTUC (Portugal - 2006/07) and at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Spain - 2007/08). In 2009 she completed her Master degree at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP) in Portugal, and she earned a position to integrate the Portuguese research team at the European project CLEAN WATER (FP7) to prepare TiO2/carbon-nanotube composite catalysts and to perform Photocatalytic Oxidative Degradation of emerging pollutants in aqueous phase. In 2010 she earned a grant from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) at the very competitive international bid FCT2009 Call for doctoral grants and in 2014 she completed her Ph.D. thesis entitled Photocatalytic activity of nanostructured TiO2/carbon-nanotube composites for near-UV to visible water treatment. After 9 years of developing research in a technological domain (2006-2015), her will was to advance knowledge in Environmental Education as a knowledge transfer process related to her previous work in Environmental Engineering. Then, she designed a project in the research field of Education Sciences, entitled WaterCircle - Dissemination of scientific knowledge as a prevention strategy in the domain of water preservation: from university research to secondary school students. The project was granted at the very competitive international bid FCT2015 Call for Post-Doctoral Fellowships (Social Sciences approved application rate = 7.4%). Since 2016, she is developing research work in Education Sciences. Since 2009 she is member of the Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering - Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials research unit (FEUP) and since 2016 she is also a member of the Centre for Research and Intervention in Education at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, University of Porto (FPCEUP). She is currently part of the research team of the European project ENGAGE STUDENTS (Erasmus+) - Promoting social responsibility of students by embedding service learning within HEIs curricula. She is (co-)author of 16 papers in indexed international peer-reviewed journals (6 as the first author), average Impact Factor 8.573, 719 citations. Holds an h-index of 12 (Scopus February 2021). The most cited paper published in Applied Catalysis B: Environmental (IF 16.683) received 107 citations. She (co-)authored over 44 abstracts in conference proceedings, 19 oral communications at national/international conferences, 11 invited lectures at academic courses, scientific projects meetings and/or at other scientific events. She is referee at international peer-reviewed periodic journals in both areas of Chemical Engineering (Education for Chemical Engineers) and Education Sciences (Journal of Education in Science, Environment and Health). She has (co-)organized 19 events, including national/international conferences and outreach activities related to research projects. She was recently awarded by the University of Porto with the Pedagogical Innovation Prize for a project to be implemented in engineering training using learner-centred and active-learning pedagogies: Active learning in the flipped classroom - the laboratory as a space of fusion for new learning paradigms (co-author). She has recently (2020) published as first author and corresponding author at one of the top international peer-reviewed journals on environmental education - Environmental Education Research (Scimago Journal Rank Education - Quartile 1).
