I, Carla Quintaneiro, have started working on environmental toxicology during my MSc in Toxicology (2003), assessing contamination effects on invertebrates using biomarkers. Later, I obtained a PhD in Biology (2012), during which I evaluated the effects of metals on invertebrates at different levels of biological organisation. In 2013, I secured independent funding to continue my research as a postdoctoral researcher specialising in assessing the effects of endocrine disruptors on amphibians and fish. Recently, I got the Clinical Investigator Certificate (UA and U. Nova de Lisboa, UNL). Since 2019, I am a contracted researcher at UA & CESAM (under DL 57/2017). In addition to my research role, in 2023 I finiched a master's degree in Clinical Investigation Management (UA and UNL). My main research interest is linking environmental toxicology with human health. Particularly, I aim to understand how subcellular effects led to adverse outcomes, and to disentangle the mechanisms that contribute to disease development. During my career, I published 36 papers in ISI journals (h-index 18; 791 citations ex. self-cit., Scopus); 22% in Top 10 with an accumulated IF of 148.1, which demonstrates the excellence of my work. Furthermore, I co-authored 3 papers in national journals with referees, 1 book-chapter, 1 conference paper, and more than 59 presentations (oral/poster) in international/national meetings. I was awarded 2 best poster prizes in scientific meetings. My research independence and scientific competence is demonstrated by: i) 89% of papers after PhD without my PhD supervisors; ii) (co)supervision of 1 PhD, 1 MSc, and training of 6 undergraduate students; iii) research project secured as co-PI in 2018 and team member in 9 projects (5 after PhD); iv) jury of thesis committees (1 PhD, 9 MSc); iv) guest associated editor in the Frontiers in Toxicology Journal; and, v) regular reviewer in 14 indexed journals. In the last 5 years, I was co-PI of a FCT project in collaboration with international institutions (U. Murcia, ES). Currently, I am team member in 3 FCT projects involving international partners (USA, BE and ES) and I am collaborating in the EU Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC). At international level, I collaborated with Watchfrog (FR) in the validation of the OECD Guideline N238 - Xenopus Eleutheroembryonic Thyroid Assay. I have been collaborating with several international institutions (e.g. U. Pisa, Valencia, South Bohemia in CZ, and IDAEA-CSIC) as demonstrated by the projects where I am involved and by publications with foreign co-authors. I have lectured at UA at (post)graduation level the curricular unit Toxicology, Ecotoxicology and Chemical Hazards (2014-2015) and the advanced course of Biomarkers in Ecotoxicology (2015-2019). I had an active role in several science dissemination and outreach initiatives in schools and local institutions. I collaborated with a national publishing company on educational content edition (Natural Sciences) and with a consulting company in the regulatory area of clinical research. I possess multidisciplinary expertise, skills and competencies to initiate a new research line focused on the role of emergent contaminants in disrupting endocrine homeostasis and cardiovascular function.
