My name is Tiago Magalhães and I believe in the power of science and knowledge to make the world a better place. I have a Ph.D in genomics and an EMBA in management of research infrastructures. I am Director of Bioinformatics at Genuity Science, where I built and now oversee a team doing analytics on big data human genetics and research, and the implementation of scalable and reproducible scientific workflows. Before my current position, I was the executive director at CCMAR, a marine research institute. Before that I studied the genomics of autism, diabetes and bowel cancer; and ancestry analysis: human migrations and admixture. I have a very strong background in biology, namely in animal models, genetic screens, cell biology, microscopy and molecular biology. For over 5 years I was part of the Autism Genome Project (AGP), a large, international genomics consortium I am an expert in R, Python, and the genetics/genomics software. I was founder and CEO of a personalized medicine start-up and adviser to Portuguese genomics and VC companies. I am an expert reviewer for genomics journals and the H2020 European Union programs. I have worked/studied in Portugal, Germany, US, Canada, East-timor, Ireland and Brasil.
