Alba R. Díez obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Universidade da Coruña (Spain) in 2013 and then completed 1 year of a Master's Degree in Biotechnology from Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (Spain). In 2014, she was awarded a fellowship from Xunta de Galicia that allowed her to carry out an internship in Philip Wigge's group at the Sainsbury Laboratory in Cambridge (SLCU), followed by an internship in Katja Jaeger's group at the same Institute. She then became a Junior Laboratory technician in Philip Wigge's group and later on in Yrjo Helariutta's group, also at SLCU. In 2016, Alba Díez moved to Portugal after being accepted in the highly competitive Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC) PhD Programme in Integrative Biology and Biomedicine. She joined Paula Duque's group in 2017, where her thesis work is addressing the contribution of alternative splicing and chromatin dynamics to the stress tolerance of the plant model Arabidopsis thaliana. Since beginning her PhD, she attended 7 meetings to present her results, including the 2019 Society of Experimental Biology (SEB) Annual Meeting in Sevilla, the FV2019 in Pamplona, the 2nd PhD Meeting in Plant Science (online) and the Plant Biology Europe 2021 meeting. She has received three travel grants to attend scientific meetings, a best poster award as well as a best oral communication, best flash-talk and a runner-up best oral communication awards. She also co-organized an international PhD meeting and contributed to 8 science outreach events. She has published a first author publication in The Plant Journal, and a first author and second author publications in Methods in Molecular Biology. Her PhD thesis defence is expected in 2024.
