Fernando Manuel Vaz Dias began his research career at the Institute for Animal Science and Health (ID-DLO), Netherlands, where he completed the curricular internship of his degree in Zootechnical Engineering. After the end of his degree, he was a research fellow in the animal reproduction laboratory of the Department of Agrarian Sciences, University of the Azores. Later, also as a research fellow joins the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Lisbon, where he completed his PhD. During his PhD he became familiar with different techniques of molecular biology, protein expression and purification, as well as biochemical and structural protein characterization techniques. After the first post-doc, in the laboratory where he developed the work leading to the his PhD degree, he started a second post-doc in the Plant Functional Genomics laboratory at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon. He is currently member of the BioSystems & Integrative Sciences Institute (Plant Functional Genomics group), with a researcher position. Author of several publications, has a h-index: 12 (Socups), with more than 700 citations of the papers in which he is author or co-author, and one of the papers has been cited 250 times so far (GoogleScholar). He has participated in several national and international conferences. In addition to research, he actively collaborates in the teaching of laboratory classes on Cell Biology, Complementary Cell Biology and Fundamentals of Molecular Biology, at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, and occasionally in other faculties. He collaborates in science dissemination actions, namely in the promotion of workshops for the training of primary and secondary school teachers. Its area of interest is the molecular and cellular biology applied to the study of proteins, and their biochemical and structural characterization. In particular, proteins involved in stress signal pathways in plants and/or involved in pollen tube growth. In addition to his research work, he is also involved in social projects, he is currently member of the board of an institution of social solidarity that provides support to children, youth and seniors.
