Daniel is a skilled and motivated PhD student in Chemistry, with a strong background in health-related research and the development of biomaterials. He has experience in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and surface-sensitive techniques, as well as in working with lipids to produce biomimetic membrane-based systems. His previous research activities focused on health-related topics, notably involved in the metabolomic characterization of colorectal zebrafish xenografts by NMR (Bachelors project) and the characterization of Adaptor Protein 2 dynamics in Clathrin-mediated Endocytosis by surface-sensitive techniques (Master project). Currently, Daniel's research focuses on the development and characterization of functional biomaterials for gas adsorption, specifically carbon dioxide, in the context of Carbon Capture and Storage. He has a particular interest in the synthesis of novel biopolymer-based porous materials and the use of NMR in combination with chemical theoretical calculations (mainly DFT) for the study and characterization of these materials. Daniel has also recently developed an interest in solid-state NMR instrumentation development using 3D printing methods. He is actively exploring new concepts for magic-angle spinning stators with tailored applications, such as in-situ characterization of solid-gas interactions.
