Raquel Maria Santos Chaves is a researcher at CIIMAR-UP in the field of Environmental Health; Emerging Contaminants; and Water Quality and Safety. The majority of her works are related with toxicological assessment of emerging contaminants integrating zebrafish animal model, chemical analysis and omics strategies. She holds a PhD in Environmental Health (2022) granted by FMUL-UL with EPAL- Grupo Águas de Portugal. She graduated in Environmental Sciences and Technology (2011) from FCUP-UP with master degree in Toxicology and Environmental Contamination (2013) from ICBAS-UP. During master studies she had the opportunity to work as visiting student in University of Helsinki. Raquel S. Chaves published 5 articles in ISI-index journals (all of them Q1), with 100 citations (h-index 4, source Scopus). She is author of one book and one book chapter in the field of Water quality and emerging contaminants. She also presented 6 posters and had one oral presentation in international conferences. Raquel S. Chaves has teaching experience as invited lecturer at FMUL in the topic of Health Sciences. She has supervised two MSc students (one as principal supervisor). Additionally, she has been active in several activities involving science dissemination and communication, in collaboration with CMIA, CIIMAR, FCUP and FMUL institutions. Raquel has been contributing with scientific and technical support in some funded projects including NOR-WATER (Program Interreg V-A Spain-Portugal POTEP) and NanoLegaTox (FEDER), having experience in interlaboratory studies and international consortia. Raquel S. Chaves main research interest include water quality; environmental and health risk assessment of emerging contaminants; safety plans of drinking water and toxicological characterization of disinfection by-products. Raquel Chaves leads the NitroTox exploratory project recently funded by FCT (2024), in the scope of Toxicological Assessment of UR-DBPs.
