A. Jorge Aguilera-López is a doctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki, specialising in Maritime History. His dissertation explores the construction of galleys in the Royal Shipyard of Barcelona during the sixteenth century. Jorge holds a BA in History from the University of Barcelona (2013) and earned an inter-university MA in Early Modern Mediterranean History with honours (2015). His research background includes working in various projects with prestigious institutions, such as the Maritime Museum of Barcelona (2016–18), the Norwegian Maritime Museum (2018), and the University of Helsinki (2018–19). Jorge is an active member of the Crown of Aragon Node of Red Columnaria and the project The Spanish Monarchy and Eastern Europe (HISTERN). He is also a founding member of the Swedish-Spanish Research Network (SWESP). His research interests encompass the multifaceted aspects of naval and maritime history in the Early Modern Mediterranean, with a particular emphasis on shipbuilding’s environmental, technological, and social dimensions. Jorge also investigates the early political and commercial connections between the Baltic and Iberian regions. His academic contributions include co-authoring a monograph, publishing multiple scientific papers, and actively participating in academic activities both nationally and internationally.
