Marcos Raydan completed the Doctor of Philosophy in Computational and Applied Mathematics in April 1991, Rice University (Houston, Tx), Magister in Mathematics in June 1984, Universidad Central de Venezuela and Bachelor in Scientific Computing in December 1978, Universidad Simón Bolivar (Caracas). He is a Principal Investigator in Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Centro de Matemática e Aplicações (CMA), Portugal. He has published over 85 articles in journals and 3 books in scientific computing. His research interests include Continuous Optimization, Numerical Analysis, and Nonlinear Matrix Problems, with a special focus on the  development of algorithms for large-scale computations. The motivation for his algorithmic and theoretical research stems from applications in  computational chemistry, control problems, image restoration, and seismic inversion.
