My Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at University of Aveiro (UA, Aveiro, Portugal, completed in Jun 2014) focused on the synthesis and characterization of porphyrin/phthalocyanine dyes for supramolecular hybrid materials. During this time, I extended my internationalization with 4 international short scientific visits with Prof. Dr. Dirk Guldi (University of Erlangen, Germany, x2), Prof. Dr. Tomás Torres (University of Madrid, Spain), and Prof. Dr. Uwe Pischel (University of Huelva, Spain), with whom I continued to collaborate during my post-doc positions. After the Ph.D. and until May 2015, I worked with metal–organic frameworks (MOF) design at CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials/UA (Aveiro, Portugal). In Jul 2015, I embraced an industrial experience in a pharmaceutical company (BIAL, Porto, Portugal) as a Process Chemist, gaining expertise in synthesizing heterocycles for the approved Parkinson's drug project. One year later, I returned to academia to implement my meanwhile-funded project in the solar materials field (€ 171K, FCT call 2014). In 2018 I got another project in the dye-sensitized materials funded (€ 240K, FCT call 2018), which allowed me to grow as Principal Investigator (PI) from Jul 2016 until Dec 2021 at QOPNA & LAQV/UA. In 2022, I have a break (unemployed) in my scientific career. From Nov 2022 until Dec 2024, I am a researcher at LAQV/UA. My research line is based on the synthesis of photoactive dye molecules (e.g., porphyrin, phthalocyanine, and their dyads), characterization, and their applications in different specialization domains, particularly in Materials Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry.

2017/03/24 Newspaper: Two research groups of Chemistry and Biology Departments at Aveiro University who have been working for 10 years on the development of alternative strategies to antibiotics on the market, published an article in Future Medicinal Chemistry. As has been reported in the media, the number of bacteria that are multiresistant to the antibiotics that threatens public health worldwide is increasing. In fact, these bacteria are responsible for more than 700000 deaths annually, a number which could increase to 10 million deaths in 2050. University of Aveiro - UA News
