Ana Maria Marques de Moura Gomes Viana

Ana Viana holds a Ph.D. (2004) in Electrical and Computers Engineering from the University of Porto. She is a Coordinator Professor at the School of Engineering (ISEP) of the Polytechnic of Porto (P.Porto) and a Senior Researcher at INESC TEC, where she was Head of the Center for Industrial Engineering and Management from 2016 to 2022. Her main focus of research is the development of mathematical models and algorithms to solve complex problems in various industries. Under her research activity, she has coordinated several R&D+I projects involving academia and companies. Many of these projects have been nominated for science and innovation national and international prizes. Besides the scientific outputs of the projects, she also reached high TRLs in her research activity, with technology transfer to companies and public services. She is founding member of KEPSoft Collaborative, a not-for-profit social enterprise spin-out company, that provides products and services for Kidney Exchange Programmes. She is an author and reviewer for several publications in top international scientific journals, evaluates project proposals submitted for national and international funding, edited special issues of journals, and is a member of the editorial board of scientific journals. Additionally, she has been a member of the Program Committee of several international conferences and an invited speaker at both national and international events. Viana is also actively involved in teaching and mentoring students. She has taught a variety of courses in electrical engineering and industrial engineering, and has supervised numerous graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. She has also been a member of several committees responsible for proposing new degrees or reforming existing ones. Furthermore, she was Vice-Director of the Department of Electrical Engineering of ISEP from January 2003 to May 2005 and is currently Vice-Director of the MSc in Sustainable Energies and Director of the PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computational Systems. She is a member of APDIO (Associação Portuguesa para o Desenvolvimento da Investigação Operacional), having been Vice-President of the Executive Board from 2014 to 2016. Since 2013, she has been participating in the assessment of Higher Education degrees as a member of external evaluation commissions of A3ES (Portuguese Association of Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education Degrees)
