Idalina Dias Sardinha is currently a senior researcher and an invited associated professor in the area of Sustainability Science at ISEG, Universidade de Lisboa. She holds a PhD (2004) from the University of Amsterdam, with a thesis entitled Towards Strategic Sustainability Performance Evaluation. A study of Portuguese companies; she did the curricular part of the Master in Corporate Environmental Management at the University of Rotterdam and she has a Master in Environmental Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland; and has a degree in Geology, specialty in mineral resources, from the Faculty of Sciences, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. After her masters she was an environmental consultant in: Portugal, doing mainly company environmental audits (3 years); Niger, coordinating environmental impact assessments of gold mining projects for about 1 year; and in Mozambique, as an advisor to the Ministry of Environment, and to Fórum Empresarial para o Meio Ambiente, the Mozambican WBCSD network representative, for 2,5 years. She has worked with multiple sectors, namely mining, energy, waste, tourism and agri-food. Since her PhD the research work done is mainly related to company sustainability assessment, corporate social responsibility, and strategic planning using participatory approaches for local sustainable development. On the last 3-4 years she is gaining specific expertise on sustainability assessment of agri-food systems. She coordinated and participated in several (inter-)national multidisciplinary (non)scientific competitive projects and is now coordinating the WP1, coordinating WP4 and WP6 of the H2020 project SustInAfrica (5years) https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/861924. She has published book chapters and several articles in leading scientific journals related with sustainability in business. Her profile is of a team leader/senior expert (more than 20 years): she has expertise in doing and assessing environmental and sustainable projects and programmes across micro to large sector project sizes, and she has experience working with (inter)national and regional/ specific competitive grants. Currently has growing interest on sustainable agri-food systems, always with community participation, contributing to local sustainable development, particularly in African countries. Specific expertise and knowledge related to the following countries and/or regions: Portugal, Mozambique, some Western and North African countries (Egypt, Tunisia, Ghana, Burkina and Niger).
