Fernando Silva joined the Unit of Materials and Composite Structures at INEGI in January 2017, with the goal of implementing new automation techniques in composite material manufacturing. He earned his master's degree in mechanical engineering in 2016 from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto, specializing in Industrial Automation. Since completing his studies, he has developed modeling and control techniques applied to the automated manufacture of composite materials. Furthermore, he actively participated in research projects, playing a role in the design and development of electronic systems, applied in thermal vacuum chamber (TVC), for data acquisition and processing from qualification tests of components for space application. Additionally, he was involved in low-level firmware programming to ensure the proper functioning of the developed electronic devices. In recent years, he has served as a process and automation engineer, overseeing the characterization of composite materials, optimization of manufacturing processes, and evaluation of production quality through the creation of advanced inspection and control systems. The study and integration of new approaches related to Industry 4.0 are also focal points of his work. Since 2022, he has been leading an "automation and control" team, entirely aligned with the vision of "ManuFUTURE Vision 2030". Additionally, he has been managing several National and European projects. Among the operating sectors are aerospace and automotive.
