Sacha Mould has a background in Polymer Engineering and several years of experience in R&D, which has allowed him to master diverse areas such as polymer processing technologies (with special emphasis on extrusion and additive manufacturing), equipment development, advanced material characterization, and a strong theoretical foundation in the physics and chemistry of polymer-based materials. The aim of his M.Sc. project was to develop on-line devices (namely, a rotational and a capillary rheometer) capable of monitoring the evolution of the compounding process during normal extrusion operations. Thanks to the appealing features and unique capabilities provided by these devices, he had the opportunity to interact with renowned petrochemical companies (e.g., BASF, Sabic) to contribute to the optimization of their processes and material formulations. In his Ph.D. dissertation, he studied the viscoelastic properties of polymer nanocomposites along a twin-screw extruder as a means of estimating the morphological changes of these materials during processing. Furthermore, he developed multiscale models to study the dispersion mechanisms in polymer nanocomposites and computational rheology tools to predict property-structure correlations of these materials. During his post-doctoral period at the Institute for Polymers and Composites, he designed a new concept of extrusion barrel segment for collecting samples during the compounding process. This device helped perform fundamental studies related to dispersion kinetics and mechanisms in nanocomposites. Additionally, a static mixer allowing the production of multilayered tapes was developed. Moreover, at INEGI, he had the opportunity to be involved in several projects as a principal researcher, technical manager, and team leader. He received training in project management and leadership, which allowed him to develop soft skills and knowledge in sustainable research, risk assessment, and mitigation, among other areas. More recently, at DTx (Digital Transformation CoLab), his focus shifted to subjects related to the digital transformation of industrial processes through the integration of artificial vision and augmented reality systems. This experience has been very positive, as he has had the opportunity to assimilate new concepts and develop new perspectives to boost innovation in various ways, including polymer technology. Working with industry has helped him identify trends in scientific research with prospective value. Currently, he holds the position of Assistant Professor at the Department of Polymer Engineering and is a member of IPC.
