Mário José Ferreira Calvete is, currently, Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra. He obtained his PhD in Natural Sciences-Organic Chemistry in 2004, from the Eberhard-Karls University of Tu¨bingen-Germany, supervised by Prof Dr. Dr. h.c. Michael Hanack, on the synthesis of phthalocyanine derivatives for Nonlinear Optics. After a postdoctoral stays at Tu¨bingen and Industry (2004-2006), he returned to Portugal as post-doc researcher at the University of Aveiro, working on the synthesis of porphyrin-phthalocyanine dyads and then at the University of Coimbra (2007-2010). In 2010 he was appointed Auxiliary Researcher at the University of Coimbra, until 2019. His current research interests are in tetrapyrrolic macrocycle and other heterocyclics design and their use in homogeneous/heterogeneous catalysis for environmental remediation and sustainable chemistry. He is author of ca. 100 peer-reviewed papers (h = 34), 2 books and 15 book chapters.
