Lénia Isabel Alfaiate Rodrigues

Lénia Isabel Alfaiate Rodrigues Graduated in Biology by the University of Évora (2009/07/15), Master in Biomedical Sciences by the University of Algarve (2012/01/04), completed her PhD in Biochemistry, at the University of Évora, on 20/07/2017. His professional career has been marked by participation in projects as a research fellow and, recently, as laboratory manager and quality assistant in the olive oil sector. November 2019 she was a research fellow within the scope of the LIVESEDD European project, focused on seed improvement as a strategy to enhance the performance and competitiveness of the organic agriculture sector, at the molecular biology laboratory at the University of Évora. In this project she was responsible for carrying out calorimetry tests and evaluate metabolic changes at the seed proteome (through SDS-PAGE and Western Blot to evaluate AOX expression) and transcriptome level (by AOX transcript quantification through RT-qPCR). From April 2021 to March 2024 she had a higher technician contract with the University of Évora, in the Molecular Biology laboratory and in the Plant Breeding laboratory, where she developed research work related to the evaluation of differences at the proteome level of olive and pea seeds during germination and in processes associated with somatic embryogenesis, optimization of metabolite extraction methods in the process of adventitious root formation and in somatic embryogenesis and analysis of gene expression by RT-qPCR associated with adventitious rooting. Currently she have a contract as an invited assistant researcher at MED (University of Évora), where she study molecular mechanisms of response to abiotic stresses in several plant species, with emphasis on the study of the proteome and metabolome, reactive oxygen species and oxidative enzymes. She was also volunteer member of the technical-scientific team of the COVID-19 Test Unit at the University of Évora, in which she performed analyzes for the detection of the SarsCOV-2 virus. Throughout his career, published 15 articles in specialized magazines, 3 book chapters, 10 oral communications and organized an event in the field of proteomics. She co-supervised one master's dissertation, and nine works for finishing of a degree course. She also supervises a PhD thesis, which is currently underway. Recently obtained approval of the patent application entitled METHOD TO DETERMINE TASTE SENSITIVITY BASED ON SALIVARY BIOCHEMICAL MARKERS. Since 2023, he has been teaching practical Cell Biology and Plant Biotechnology.
