Marta Sofia Salvador Lopes da Silva completed her Bachelor’s (BSc) degree in Biology in July 2017 and her Master’s (MSc) degree in Marine Biology in 2019, both at the University of Aveiro (UA). She has experience in the maintenance of organisms in laboratory conditions, having had a internship at Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR), volunteering at Estação Litoral da Aguda (ELA), as well as from her MSc, fellowship (project BIOGEOCLIM (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-029185)), and PhD work. Her scientific career also involves acute and chronic exposures of marine invertebrates to contaminants and the analysis of behavioural, physiological, and biochemical parameters. She is the first author in various papers, including “Behavior and biochemical responses of the polychaeta Hediste diversicolor to polystyrene nanoplastics” (IF: 7.963/Q1, 2020) and “Effects of polymethylmethacrylate nanoplastics on the polychaete Hediste diversicolor: Behavioural, regenerative, and biochemical responses” ” (IF: 5.202/Q1, 2023), and a co-author of the paper "Biochemical and behavioural alterations induced by Arsenic and temperature in Hediste diversicolor of different growth stages" (IF: 4.614/Q2). Marta has participated in the organization of several events and attended national and international conferences, where she presented posters (“Will pre-exposure to arsenic contaminated sediment alter the effects of PMMA NPs on polychaetes?” – Ciência 23, held at UA in July) and gave oral presentations (e.g.: “Parental exposure to nanoplastics and offspring sensitivity to environmental contamination - A case study with polystyrene” – Micro2022, online conference). Moreover, she has also participated in activities in schools, for 6th and 12th graders, and in activities for schools organized by and at UA (Xperimenta 2019 and 2022). Marta is currently in the final year of her PhD at UA, with an FCT grant, entitled “NoPlastic - Effects of nanoplastics on marine polychaetes: alone and in combination with trace elements” with the supervision of Doctor Adilia Pires (UA), Doctor Miguel Oliveira (UA), and Doctor Andre Vethaak (Deltares).
