Experience in Science Education, Training, Administration and Management as the head of Advanced training of the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, coordinating all the Training Programmes. 7 years in Education and Training Management, as well as career development. Member of COLIFE and chair of the Recruitment and Training Workgoup of EULIFE, an alliance of research institutes advocating for excellent research in Europe. Before moving into management, Ana had 8 years-experience as an independent researcher expert in deep-sea biology and ecology. Have trained a research team and set up a laboratory for the morphological and molecular analysis of benthic organisms and sediments through a funded project. The work focused on promoting the sustainable use of marine resources and its value, one of the best natural resources available to Portugal, and at the same time ensuring the systematic assessment of the environmental status and biodiversity preservation, contributing to maintain a good environmental status in the marine environment by 2020, a requisite from the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive. Valuable social and organizational skills such as communication and leadership skills, strategic and problem-solving thinking, strong teamwork focus and excellent time management and planning skills.

  2. A new 'saccamminid' genus (Rhizaria: Foraminifera), from 4400 m water depth in the Nazaré Canyon (NE Atlantic). We describe Bithekammina occulta, a new monothalamous agglutinated foraminiferan ('saccamminid') collected in multicore samples at 4400 m on the terrace of the lower Nazare Canyon on the Portuguese margin. The test is spherical to oval, up to similar to 400 mu m in length, with a simple circular aperture. The wall has a very smooth surface with a distinct sheen in reflected light. It is <10 mu m t. 2011. Da Silva, Ana Aranda; Gooday, Andrew J.; Pearse, Richard B.; Cunha, Marina R.. http://hdl.handle.net/10773/7671.
  3. Novel lineages of Southern Ocean deep-sea foraminifera revealed by environmental DNA sequencing. Diversity of deep-sea foraminifera is commonly studied based on analysis of agglutinated and calcareous tests preserved in the dried sediment samples. Soft-walled and agglutinated monothalamous (single-chambered) foraminifera are usually ignored because they are poorly preserved and difficult to identify. Moreover, the assemblage examined is usually limited to sediment size fraction larger than 63. 2011.
