I hold a BSc and MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Aveiro, with a specialization in biomedical devices, e-health, and luminescent thermometry. Throughout my academic path, I developed a strong interest in scientific research, particularly in the fields of optics, photonics, and luminescent sensors for biomedical applications. Early in my career, I worked with carbon-based luminescent materials to develop photonic sensors for UV and blue light detection. My MSc thesis led to the development of smartphone-compatible luminescent thermometers using carbon dots, aimed at making temperature sensing more accessible in healthcare. In parallel, I actively collaborated on several research projects at CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials. These included smart medical tags for real-time monitoring, solar-powered smart windows for sustainable buildings, and integrated photonic neuronal probes for neuromorphic computing. These multidisciplinary projects allowed me to enhance my technical and creative skills. Currently, I am a research fellow at CICECO, focusing on the development of protein- and dye-based luminescent thermometers to improve measurement accuracy in complex biological environments. This research aligns with my PhD, which began in 2024 . My doctoral work aims to advance intracellular thermometry. I have solid experience in programming (Python, MATLAB, C++), data analysis, optical instrumentation, luminescent material characterization and I am passionate about translating fundamental research into practical biomedical solutions.
