Ana Margarida Vale has a degree (16/20) and a master's degree (17/20) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Beira Interior (UBI). Her master's thesis was focused on exploring the impact of inflammatory molecules - histamine and LPS - on susceptibility to neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease. The experimental work was carried out at the Health Sciences Research Center (Covilhã - UBI), under the supervision of Dr. Liliana Bernardino. This work is being prepared to submit as a research paper as the first author. The PhD proposal will advance the knowledge on how histamine can also have a therapeutic impact on neuropsychiatric disorders. Ana has experience in various scientific techniques, including in vivo and in vitro experiments, as well as molecular and cell biology techniques such as Western blotting, immunostaining, confocal and fluorescence microscopy. She is a co-author in a research article in the Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences journal (IF 9,261). Also, she is first author in an under revision chapter (Microglia-Driven neuroinflammation: a pivotal player in Brain Disorders) for a book from ELSA (Brain and organ communication). During her academic career, she was involved in several academic projects (member of the direction of BioMedUBI - Group of Biomedical Science Students and Secretary of the Academic Association of the University of Beira Interior) that promoted the development of different skills, such as good communication skills, a strong team spirit, a high sense of responsibility and organization, which allowed her to want to learn more and continue with PhD studies. During her course in higher education she gained good laboratory practices, which are indispensable for the success of the work. In addition, Ana also has several computer skills that include basic skills in Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism, Mendeley, ImageJ, Bio-Rad Image Lab and Zeiss AxioVision, fundamental programs for the analysis of laboratory results.
