Pedro Sidónio Pereira da Silva is a physicist and higher education professional at the Department of Physics, University of Coimbra (Portugal), with over two decades of experience in research, teaching, and scientific outreach. He holds a Ph.D. in Experimental Physics and a Master’s in Technological Physics from the University of Coimbra, having specialized in condensed matter and structural physics. From the beginning of his academic path, Pedro Silva combined a rigorous scientific approach with a deep passion for teaching Physics. His early career included teaching Physics and Chemistry at the secondary level, where he developed innovative pedagogical methods tailored to diverse educational contexts. Later, as Assistant Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco, he taught several undergraduate courses, designing theoretical and laboratory classes that encouraged experimental inquiry, critical thinking, and scientific literacy among students. Since 2014, he has been a Senior Technician at the TAIL Laboratory (Trace Analysis and Imaging Laboratory) of the University of Coimbra, responsible for the operation, maintenance, and calibration of advanced analytical instruments such as XRD, SEM, ICP-MS, XRF, FTIR, TG-DSC, and PPMS DynaCool™. Alongside his technical duties, he remains an active researcher at the CFisUC – Center for Physics of the University of Coimbra – within the Chemical and Applied Condensed Matter Physics group. His research has produced more than 100 publications indexed in the Web of Science, including Angewandte Chemie International Edition, and involves international collaborations in the fields of molecular and solid-state physics. Pedro Silva has conducted research in the field of Physics Education and Didactics, with around twenty peer-reviewed publications focusing on innovative approaches to teaching and learning Physics. His pedagogical research explores the integration of smartphones, Arduino systems, and other digital tools into laboratory activities, transforming traditional experimental teaching into a more interactive and student-centered experience. Many of these works have been published in good reputation journals such as European Journal of Physics, The Physics Teacher, Journal of Chemical Education, and Physics Education, as well as in book chapters published by Springer. In recognition of his contributions to educational innovation, he received the Santander-UC Pedagogical Innovation Award (InovaçãoPedagógica4UC) in 2020. His work demonstrates a sustained commitment to improving Physics education at all levels, bridging experimental science, digital technology, and pedagogical creativity. He also plays an active role in public outreach, promoting Physics among younger generations through school lectures, laboratory visits, and science dissemination events.
