Federico Clementoni completed his master's degree in Marine Biology in February 2022 (110/110, with honors) and his bachelor's degree in February 2019 at the Polytechnic University of Marche (UNIVPM) in Ancona, Italy. The master's thesis entitled "Quantitative and macromolecular assessment of hepatic melanomacrophages and lipids as promising tools for the conservation of elasmobranchs in the Adriatic Sea" was carried out at the Developmental and Reproductive Biology Laboratory at UNIVPM. The thesis work allowed him to learn histological and imaging techniques as well as the use of FT-IR spectroscopy. Since April 2024 he is doing a curricular internship in the central laboratory of EPAL (Empresa Portuguesa das Águas Livres), in Lisbon, for his PhD project which started in October 2023 at the Centre of Marine Science (CCMAR) at the University of Algarve where he previously started carrying out a voluntary internship within the marine pollution project MicroWaste, as a pre-doctoral period in June 2023. In March 2023 he took part, under the affiliation of SharkLab ADRIA, in the Acoustic Telemetry Workshop held by InnovaSea in Vlorë, Albania. Between November 2022 and February 2023, he carried out an internship at the IRTA of Sant Carles de La Rapìta (Catalonia, Spain) where he was able to observe the effects of different diets on the growth of sea bream (Sparus aurata), he was able to take part in weight and measurement of farmed fish and had the opportunity to learn homogenization techniques of biological tissues from bivalves and teleosts and enzymatic analysis for the evaluation of oxidative stress. Between May 2022 and June 2022, he worked on a Maltese towing vessel as an ICCAT National observer of bluefin tuna fishing. In August 2021 he carried out an internship at SharkLab Malta where he performed visual census surveys for the project Fly with Bull Rays as well as census and measurements of elasmobranchs caught by Maltese fishing vessels in the main fish market and collection of eggs from oviparous species for incubation, hatching, and future release in the wild. Other activities carried out in the internship were beach clean-ups and the dissection of dead specimens of elasmobranchs for education and divulgation purposes. Between April 2019 and September 2019, he carried out an internship at the MISE Lab of the University of the Ryukyus (Okinawa, Japan) where he carried out activities such as sample collection of coral rubble and coral rubble¿s cryptofauna; cryptofauna identification and sorting; DNA extraction; PCR; underwater transect in coral reefs; comparison between control sites and sites where corals were transplanted from artificial nurseries; coral identification; sea cucumber sampling.
