Francisca Lopes received her MSc degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and holds a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Lisbon. She joined the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Lisbon (FFUL) as an Assistant Professor in 2001, and was promoted to Associate Professor of Medcinal Chemistry in 2012. Francisca received the Habilitation in Pharmaceutical Sciences from FFUL in 2016. Francisca Lopes has successfully established an international research program on medicinal chemistry for tuberculosis and malaria, involving the collaboration with the University of California at S. Francisco (UCSF) and University of Cape Town (UCT). This program received the support from the Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV). Her research program in tuberculosis and malaria drug discovery. She has has successfully (co-)mentored >20 MSc/PhD students and postdocs during her career. Francisca Lopes has established herself as an authority in the development of innovative chemical entities endowed with multi-targeting mechanisms of action applied to malaria and tuberculosis, regularly publishing reviews/research in highly recognised journals. She has published > 40 manuscripts, inlcuding in journals such as J Med Chem and ACS Med Chem Lett, and is inventor in 1 patent.
