I am a social anthropologist working at the intersection of anthropology and Science and Technology Studies (STS). My research explores how technoscientific practices—particularly those related to gene therapy and genome editing—are embedded in ethical values, legal frameworks, and social imaginaries. My master’s research involved an ethnographic study of scientists’ imagined futures concerning genetic technologies in Portugal, based on fieldwork in laboratories and interviews with researchers across different career stages. In my doctoral work, I extend this analysis through a comparative study between Portugal and China, examining how cultural, political, and institutional contexts shape scientists’ ethical reflections and future visions of biotechnology. Through this line of research, I aim to contribute to a critical understanding of the entanglements between technoscience, moral reasoning, and social imagination.
