Renato Ferreira da Silva (RFS) is a Pharmacist, recognized by the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society (CP: 24360). He obtained a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto (2019), and a PhD in Clinical Research and Health Services (2024) from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto (FMUP). Currently, he is a Research Pharmacist at the Porto Pharmacovigilance Centre, and an Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Community Medicine, Information, and Health Decision Sciences at FMUP, where he teaches in the fields of clinical research methodologies, health technology assessment, evidence synthesis and evaluation, health decision-making, digital health, biostatistics, and data analysis. He is also an Invited Assistant in pathophysiology, pharmacotherapy, and pharmacology at the Laboratory of Pharmacology of the Department of Drug Sciences at FFUP. Over the past four years, RFS has taught more than 10 curricular units in various study cycles, including those in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nursing, Medicine, and Digital Health & Biomedical Innovation, as well as postgraduate programs, including the Master’s in Primary Health Care. RFS is also an Integrated Researcher in the PharmaHTA – Therapeutics, Pharmacovigilance, and Hypertension Diagnosis research group at the Center for Health Technology and Services Research, Associate Laboratory RISE – Health Research Network (CINTESIS@RISE), and a Collaborating Researcher in the Pharmacotherapy & Pharmacovigilance group of the Algarve Biomedical Research and Training Center (ABC-RI). He is the author of more than 30 full-length scientific publications, including 21 indexed in ISI Web of Science/SCOPUS, of which 11 as the first author (h-index=3). His scientific output also includes 20 poster presentations, 9 oral presentations at national and international conferences, 3 book chapters, and 1 technical report. Between 2021 and 2025, he conducted 37 peer reviews for 23 scientific journals. RFS’s research activities predominantly focus on drug safety, particularly in pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology, integrating these areas with clinical research methodologies, health technology assessment, evidence synthesis - including systematic reviews and meta-analyses - and clinical epidemiology. He has expertise in the design and execution of post-marketing surveillance studies to evaluate drug safety, effectiveness, and utilization patterns, actively contributing to their conception, planning, and implementation. RFS has experience in health technology research projects at both national and European levels. Among the projects he has been involved in, notable ones include ONCATS (health technology assessment), TREAT, TREAT-DUS, LOOK-UP, MINIMIZE, and CONTROL-EU (pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology), SHAPES (digital health), and SKILLS4ADHERENCE (therapeutic adherence). Five of these projects were part of competitive funding calls, with two specifically funded by the European Medicines Agency. Additionally, RFS is the Principal Investigator at FMUP of the ongoing VIGIA project and has another project submitted for competitive funding, currently awaiting evaluation. Furthermore, RFS is an active member of several professional and scientific organizations, including: Secretary of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Society of Healthcare Pharmacists; President of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Association of Young Pharmacists; Member of the Clinical Trials Interest Group of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society; Member of the Specialized Sections on Research & Clinical Trials and Regulatory Affairs & Quality of the Portuguese Society of Healthcare Pharmacists; Member of the Real-World Evidence and Big Data Group of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance; Member of the Cochrane Collaboration & Porto Associate Center of Cochrane Portugal; and Member of the Portuguese Society of Pharmacology.
