Carlo conducts critical, postdisciplinary research in tourism, rooted in a humble posthumanist ethos. His educational, professional, and academic trajectory is marked by experiences across diverse European cultural contexts — namely in Italy, France, and Portugal. He is currently a PhD candidate and research fellow in Tourism, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Côa Parque Foundation (FCP), at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon (IGOT-ULisboa). He is a member of the TERRITUR Research Group (Tourism, Heritage and Space) at the Centre of Geographical Studies (CEG), a research unit within the TERRA Associate Laboratory. He holds a Master’s degree in Planning and Management of Tourism Systems and two Bachelor’s degrees in: i) Tourism Management and Development; and ii) Geography and Planning. In 2019, during an internship at the I.P. Turismo de Portugal in Lisbon, he began his research on the phenomenon of overtourism. His current research explores collaborative governance as a mechanism to prevent overtourism and enable radical tourism futures — not aligned with dominant anthropocentric paradigms and a priori growth-driven logics. His mother tongue is Italian, but he’s proficient in three other languages (English, Portuguese and French), and independent in Spanish.
