Giacomo Domenici (Rome, Italy, 1985), holds an MSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biomedicine (September 2017) from the University of Basque Country (Spain). His Ph.D. Thesis research work was performed in the research center CICbioGUNE (Derio, Bilbao, Spain). During this time, he was focused on cancer cell biology, with a special focus on breast cancer. His research shed light on the role of SOX transcription factors involved with breast cancer tumorigenesis, cancer stem cells and endocrine resistance, and the results of his research were published in international journals and scientific conferences. In 2018, he joined as PostDoc researcher the Laboratory of Advanced Cell Models led by Dr Catarina Brito (Animal Cell Technology Unit) at the Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (iBET) and, since 2019, as Associate Scientist. Currently, his main research areas are focused on the development and application of advanced 3D in vitro cell models for cancer research and neuroscience. A special focus has been given to breast cancer and more recently on rare tumors such as Ewing's Sarcoma and pediatric gliomas. He has been also involved in industry project management as well as MSc and PhD students' supervision. Other key areas of interest include the innate immune response, the tumor microenvironment, oncoimmunology and the development of novel targeted therapies against cancer.
