Dr. Sofia Pereira (SP) holds a degree in Biology (2001), MSc in Toxicology (2004) and a PhD in Biology (2010) from Aveiro University (Portugal). Currently, she is Senior Researcher and Invited Assistant Professor at Centro Biotecnologia e Química Fina, Universidade Católita Portuguesa. Her scientific activity has been focused on fostering biotechnological approaches towards a more sustainable and resilient agriculture and on the restoration of degraded areas, being her domain of activity the environmental and agricultural biotechnology. Her scientific outputs are the result of an interdisciplinary approach integrating complementary fields including soil science, microbiology, and biotechnology. SP has published 29 papers in peer reviewed journals, 10 book chapters and 2 technical guides. Her work accumulates 689 citations, with an h-index of 14 (SCOPUS). She co-authored an international patent and has more than 55 communications in scientific international/national conferences, including 11 oral presentations. She has participated in 11 national and EU-funded research projects on the subject of plant microbe-interactions and stresses and maintains an active international network with shared scientific publications. SP also has experience as guest editor in several special issues in international journals with peer review. Recently, she was invited to be project evaluater in frame of OPUS-19 program (NCN, Poland). SP has been involved in the supervision of students from different levels, including undergraduate students, ERASMUS, and MSc and gave scientific support to several international PhDs. SP has also been dedicated to teaching at undergraduate (Regent of Mycology, UCP) and post-graduate levels and she also has an active role in Science Technology-Society communication through the organization of seminars, workshops, demonstration sessions, and press releases. Currently, her main research interests are focused on the impact of climate changes and related abiotic stresses on crop productivity and on the devise of stable bioinocula formulations using new carrier materials.
