Neeraj Kumar is a PhD student in Mathematics at the University of Porto, and a recepient of 48 month scholarship from the Centre of Mathematics University of Porto, financed via the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. He obtained his BS-MS dual degree from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata, India. His Masters thesis, titled Maximal Torus in a Lie Group and its Weyl Group, involved the study of representation theory, differential geometry and algebraic topology. He pursued along this line in a two-year project after his Masters, where he studied the Weyl Character Formula for compact connected Lie groups, and homology and cohomology theories. Currently, he has deveoped an interest in discrete mathematics involving the interaction of algebra and combinatorics. In particular, the mathematical structure of numerical semigroups has provided a fertile ground to pursue this interaction. His PhD thesis would involve the investigation of the Wilf's conjecture- a famous unsolved problem in the area of numerical semigroups, and its related problems.
