Pedro Seixas started his career of marine biologist in 2003 when he finished Aquatic Life Sciences at ICBAS - University of Porto, Portugal. In 2004 he got a PhD grant from FCT Fundaçao da Ciencia e Tecnologia, Portugal, to make his PhD at the University of Santiago de Compostela USC, Spain. He obtained his PhD title in 2009, in "Marine Biology and Aquaculture" with Sobresaliente "cum laude" at the USC, with his thesis "Composición bioquímica y crecimiento de paralarvas de pulpo (Octopus vulgaris Cuvier, 1797), alimentadas con juveniles de Artemia enriquecidos con microalgas y otros suplementos nutricionales." After a one year period at the USC as hired postdoc researcher, Pedro Seixas decided to found in 2011 a spin-off company named AQUALGAE SL in Spain. Four years later, in 2015, Aqualgae opened a branch in Portugal (Aqualgae Sociedade Limitada Sucursal em Portugal) to expand its domain in the field of microalgae production equipment and automation for aquaculture. Aqualgae is a company dedicated to the design, manufacturing and installation of photobioreactors (PBRs) for the production of microalgae, and also develops automation, supervision and control systems for aquaculture. Presently, AQUALGAE is one of the leading companies in Europe offering PBRs for the optimal production of microalgae, with clients in more than 15 countries. In 2023, Pedro Seixas joined the Center for Research and Development in Agrifood Systems and Sustainability - CISAS, based at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, Portugal.
