I am a Research Fellow at the MED research center at the University of Évora. I hold dual degrees in Zootechnics and Agronomy from the Santarém Polytechnic Institute, as well as a Master’s in Conservation Biology from the University of Évora. My research within the SOLVO and SOLVIT projects focuses on the impact of mulch and biochar applications in restoring degraded agricultural soils. Additionally, I study biochar’s potential to enhance soil carbon sequestration by assessing carbon stocks and fluxes. My motivation stems from my personal experience in agricultural management and a strong curiosity about innovative conservation strategies. I believe dedicated research on biochar will unlock its potential as a key tool for soil conservation, carbon storage, and climate change mitigation. Through my involvement in various scientific projects, including REWET and RESFIRE, I have broadened my research scope to address critical global environmental challenges. These include improving carbon sequestration strategies in response to rising atmospheric carbon levels and developing sustainable wildfire management approaches in the context of climate change.
