Ana Rita Lima Pinheiro (ALP) holds a master's degree in Health Sciences, taken at the School of Medicine, and a bachelor's in Applied Biology at the School of Sciences, both from the University of Minho. Since her master's dissertation project, ALP started her path in the malaria field project, mainly focused on antimalarial mode of action and resistance mechanisms screening. ALP had a research fellow in the project "MalPharm - A genetic sensors-based high-throughput screening platform for antimalarial development", which unveiled a novel class of compounds with a potential antimalarial profile. Following up on the MalPharm project, ALP was enrolled in the project "Mechanisms of action and resistance to the antimalarial Purydrazide". The project aimed to deeply explore the group of drugs that showed up as potential candidates for antimalarials, Purydrazides. The main goal was to identify novel drugable targets in P. falciparum with the ability to delay drug resistance development. Nowadays, ALP is in the biotech industry as a Junior Research Associate at FairJourney Biologics, which is allowing her to gather knowledge in different areas of expertise.
